October is National Physical Therapy Month

October is here, and that means it is also National Physical Therapy Month! This is obviously something we take pride in here at Island Sports Physical Therapy, as we strive to be the best we can be each day.  Our goal is always to provide comfort to our patients, while also administering quality care and helping to treat and prevent any pain or injury. We have used our physical therapy methods to help many people get back on their feet, and we still remain true to our core values.

Why Physical Therapy is Important

Physical therapy is beneficial to anyone who suffers from various medical conditions, illnesses, or injuries that prevent them being able to move regularly or affect them on a daily basis. The practice can also help to restore normal function of any affected area of the body and can allow patients to return to a healthy, active lifestyle. Doctors will usually refer their patients to physical therapy as it is generally a safe route to take to manage problems. Treatment plans help to relieve pain, improve mobility and strength, increase your range of motion, and also relieve stress.

When an injury occurs, it is important to address the situation immediately so that the healing process can begin. Our physical therapists can help get you the proper care in a timely manner to help any injury or ongoing chronic pain you may be experiencing.

Avoid Surgery

Another reason why physical therapy is important is that in some cases, it can serve as an alternative to surgery. By facilitating the healing process, eliminating pain, and improving overall physical health in a more natural way, physical therapy helps to repair injured tissue and increase mobility without having to undergo a surgical procedure.

Injury Prevention

Similarly, physical therapy can help to prevent injury by assessing areas of weakness and formulating a plan to strengthen those vulnerable areas. In doing so, this should decrease the chances of the patient getting injured, allowing them to live pain-free. By simply identifying these feeble skeletal or muscular areas, our physical therapists can pinpoint the chances that the patient will experience an injury in the specified area. The next step is to create a regimen that will help strengthen that area, thus reducing the chance for injury.

It’s our hope that the information in this article was useful and helps to encourage the significance of physical therapy during National Physical Therapy Month!
